I have GMail!

I’ve been invited to participate in the GMail beta from Google. For those who don’t know, GMail is web-based mail with built-in Google style searching of your own mail, and 1 Gigabyte of storage. That’s right… GIGABYTE. I haven’t had much time to play yet, but the notable features are:

  • NO folders - instead you have labels… Thereby allowing one mail to be categorized in many different ways.
  • You can put a “star” next to certain emails, the star meaning whatever you want it to mean - but you can find the emails quickly.
  • And, of course, Google search of your mail. Though I only have one mail so far, so this isn’t very fun yet.

Oh, and this is neat: a very quick way to skim past a lot of spam:

Show indicators - Display an arrow ( >) by messages sent to my address (not a mailing list), and a double arrow ( >> ) by messages sent only to me.

Sadly, there’s no way to import other POP3 mail (as of yet). Spam away: jchausse@gmail.com
