This is just one of those gotta-have freebie software products that fills a gaping hole in Windows’ functionality and does it very well. PrimoPDF allows you to “print” anything printable to a PDF file, much like Mac OS X allows you to do natively. Download it now.

I’ve used PDF995 before to do this — it’s a suite of PDF editing software that not only has the print functionality, but some degree of editing and conversion too. It’s free, but basically adware. When you print something it opens a web browser window with a “visit our sponsors” kind of link. But honestly, it never annoyed me, and it’s well worth the features.
It’s also worth pointing out that OpenOffice (an Open Source [free] MS Office replacement) has native PDF export built into it!
There was another free PDF printer application I’ve used before, but I can’t remember what it was. I had replaced it with the PDF995 software.
david 5/4/05 @ 4:03 pmYikes — my link must have been malformed! Please edit, thanks!
david 5/4/05 @ 4:04 pmI’m guessing you meant to say PDF995 in the first sentence, so that’s what I fixed… If that’s not right, let me know….
Jeff 5/4/05 @ 4:08 pmYup - you got it. Weird name for software. (in other words, I’ve been too lazy to see if they explain it anywhere)
