Wow, I either started an instant trend, or unknowingly joined into an existing one. While trying to discreetly pitch MyBigRiver.com to influential folks who might find it interesting, I stopped by evhead, the site of Evan Williams (creator of Blogger). I was trying to figure out how to tell him about MyBigRiver.com without sounding like a press release, when I noticed that his latest post is about “InstantDomainSearch.com“, a site which works in almost exactly the same way to search available domain names. Huh.

Hi Jeff,
Nice clean app. I don’t really have a use for it but I respect something which has been intuitively whittled down to its’ base functionality.
With regards to this entry, live search isn’t new so saying that InstantDomainSearch.com has copied your idea is not really accurate. Let your app stand on its’ own two feet. Does it work? Will people use it? If so, there’s nothing to worry about.

I never intended to imply that InstantDomainSearch.com copied MyBigRiver.com. Although I guess my subject line does sort of give that impression. I actually meant it as a joke, and thought of putting a smiley face after it, but deemed that too unprofessional. Sometimes my weird sense of humor doesn’t translate well into print. In any case, thanks for the kind words.
