Another Brush with Reality (TV)

I’m pretty sure I just saw Pradeep from VH1’s The Pickup Artist in a local eatery. A couple years ago I ran into “Brian W.” from Average Joe at CompUSA. In neither case did I approach the subject, but it got me thinking…

What’s the proper approach when saying hello to a reality *ahem* star? I mean, with “real” actors, even if you know they’re jerks in real life, you can ignore that fact and just say that you “loved you in [whatever]”. But with a reality TV dude, it’s just, like, “Hi, saw you in The Pickup Artist. Um. You were a jerk.”

Not that I’m saying Pradeep is a jerk. But he refused to apologize after accidentally slapping another guy in the face really hard. What’s up with that?

  • Man, I’ve never even heard of those shows, so I guess I’ll never have that problem…

  • I’d have been fine with that introduction :) Where was it?

  • It was at “KnowFat!” in Waltham. I work (roughly) next door. My wife and I (who aren’t normally big “reality TV” people) were totally hooked on that show. If you’re there frequently, I’d be happy to buy you lunch in exchange for tales about what it was like making the show… But seriously, man… would a “Sorry, dude, just messing around” have killed you? Or was that staged? We were totally rooting for you in the beginning!

  • Ah knowfat - yeah, I stop by there some wednesday’s when I see the ol’ therapist at McLean…. But yeah, I more often go to my favorite chinese place in metro boston… sichuan’s garden… But either way, I’d be happy to meet up sometime…

But yeah, it wasn’t really staged, I did accidentally slap joe, and they did exaggerate the strife it caused, but its all cool (he gave my gf a belly laugh over the cellphone like last week.). I thought he was playing a practical joke on me, and really didn’t realize he was actually hurt until later that day after which time I apologized. And you see, that was the requisite amount of time for me to realize it wasn’t a joke… One time I woke up with a leaf bug on my forehead, I thought there was a bug problem and complained to the producers, and it wasn’t until the end of the day that the Joes fessed up and admitted it was their deviousness to blame….silly boys…
